Background: improved patient experience through biometric identification and wayfinding
As part of a multi-year digital transformation program, the client was looking to improve patient experience through tools such as biometric identification (facial recognition, palm, and finger readers). The health system used Epic’s Welcome Kiosk solutions which it was looking to enhance through a non-native solution that could integrate seamlessly and provide a superior patient experience. Damo Consulting was asked to review the approach to the patient access feature and evaluate a technology platform that had been identified as a potential choice for the solution.
Approach and results: Evaluated Epic’s native capabilities, identified gaps that could be met through biometric and wayfinding solutions
Damo Consulting conducted detailed architecture review and features evaluation of the proposed vendor’s suite of solutions involving the patient access solution involving biometric identification and other identity and access management solutions. Through a series of internal workshops facilitated by Damo and supported by Damo research, the client determined that the biometric identification feature as a necessary addition to the existing Epic solution suite. Leveraging its existing deep connections in the technology community, Damo Consulting helped the client’s IT leadership quickly establish a direct connection with Epic’s product management leadership to do a detailed review of native functionalities and features that could be leveraged. After a quick evaluation which included onsite demos and site visits, Damo subsequently helped the client redefine the scope of the solution for implementing the biometric solution. By adopting a rigorous process of identifying existing solutions, identifying near-term needs, and solution features, Damo was able to help identify the right scope of work and avoid millions in unnecessary costs and savings.
