Director of Healthcare Technology & Engineering
Location – Ohio
Duration – Fulltime (Hybrid: 4 days onsite, 1 day remote per week)

Summary:
Serve as the primary administrative contact for executive leadership on biomedical technology matters. Lead the Clinical Engineering Department in selecting, procuring, and delivering biomedical equipment and services. Ensure all program elements comply with Joint Commission and other regulatory and inspection agency requirements, guidelines, and standards. Develop and implement strategies aligned with the Client. Establish annual goals and objectives to support the growth and advancement of clinical engineering in response to present and future needs. Oversaw the Clinical Engineering Department’s annual operating budget. Provide leadership and collaborate with the Environment of Care Committee and Operational Departments. Develop and implement processes and improvements to meet cybersecurity requirements within Biomedical Engineering.
Responsibilities:
- Establish and implement standardized policies and procedures to support Clinical Engineering Department functions.
- Review, rank, and prioritize strategic capital requests for biomedical equipment.
- Develop and achieve goals for biomedical technology aligned with the strategic plan.
- Provide clinical engineering expertise for maintenance capital submittals for biomedical equipment across all sites.
- Oversee medical equipment planning for construction projects at various sites.
- Conduct pre-purchase evaluations, research vendors, and assess cost of ownership for biomedical acquisitions.
- Perform initial inspections and acceptance testing for newly acquired biomedical equipment.
- Participate in investigations and reporting of medical device-related incidents.
- Manage medical device hazard and recall notification programs.
- Ensure compliance with Joint Commission medical equipment management standards.
- Support the integration of biomedical equipment with electronic medical records.
- Strengthen cybersecurity measures in biomedical equipment and networks.
- Oversee equipment performance and vendor service management to maintain top-tier patient care standards, including resolving performance issues.
- Standardize biomedical equipment maintenance across all sites.
- Engage with key clinical stakeholders through system committee participation.
- Enhance capital purchasing efficiency by consolidating opportunities across locations and fiscal years.
- Negotiate system-wide service agreements with vendors when appropriate.
- Track and report Biomedical Engineering department metrics, including preventive maintenance performance, work volumes, and productivity.
Technical Expertise:
- Strong knowledge of various patient care equipment.
- Expertise in electronic theory and technology.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software.
- Ability to develop and implement policies and procedures effectively.
- Strong communication skills for conveying technical concepts to non-technical personnel.
- Experience in supervising, directing, evaluating, and delegating work within a team.
- Problem-solving skills for analyzing complex technical issues and recommending solutions.
- In-depth understanding of Joint Commission and other relevant regulatory standards.
Education and Experience:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering or a related technical field is required. A Master’s degree with a clinical engineering concentration is preferred.
- Certification: Certified Healthcare Technology Manager certification is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of seven years in medical or technical equipment operations and maintenance management, including five years leading a hospital clinical engineering program.
- Familiarity with regulatory and inspection agency requirements.
- Advanced electronic training is required.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
